Events That
Tell a Story
A glimpse into the stages Divya has hosted across 7+ years.
Fort rooms are sharp rooms
and the audience reads scripts fast.
A heritage loft full of architects, law firm partners, and senior corporate guests can spot a recycled opening before the host finishes the second sentence.
A birthday party in Fort or Kala Ghoda has a particular kind of guest list. There are the law firm partners from the offices around High Court, architects and creative-studio founders from Kala Ghoda, and corporate types from the Ballard Estate buildings nearby. This crowd notices when a host is reading something off, and they stop listening immediately when they do.
The Fort venues also play their own role. Restored colonial buildings with 18-foot ceilings sound great for chamber music and terrible for shouty hosts with a cheap PA. So before each booking Divya walks the room with the AV team, gets the script approved by the host family, and adjusts her register to the specific space. By the time guests walk in, the evening sounds composed and the running order is built around the host’s actual story instead of off a sheet.

Two birthday parties
Divya has hosted in Fort
A 50th for a senior litigator, hosted in a room full of his court adversaries.
The host was a senior litigator at one of the older Fort law firms. About half the guest list was made up of lawyers from competing firms, including a few he had cross-examined in court the same month. The opening cocktail hour was polite to the point of awkward, and the host’s wife was quietly worried it would stay that way.
“Divya opened with a story from the host’s first year in chambers in the early 1990s, when he had lost a case to one of the guests sitting two tables away, and turned it into a clean, affectionate roast.”
The lawyer who had won that 1990s case stood up to add the other half of the story. Inside fifteen minutes the room had stopped being a careful gathering of professionals and turned into something closer to a college reunion, which is exactly the brief the host’s wife had asked for on the prep call.
The loft’s old wiring meant the wireless mics started feeding back, twice.
A 60th in a restored heritage loft off Kala Ghoda. 18-foot brick ceilings, gorgeous space, but the venue’s wiring did not play well with the rented wireless mics. Halfway through the host’s son’s toast, the mic squealed loud enough that the older relatives in the front row visibly flinched.
“Divya switched to a corded handheld for herself, asked the AV team to kill the wireless channels, and ran the rest of the evening from the floor instead of the small raised platform.”
The corded mic stayed clean, and her register dropped just enough to settle the room down. The remaining toasts went without a single audio issue, and the older guests, who had been a bit rattled, said the second half of the evening was the warmest part of the whole night.
What she brings to
your family birthday party
Three things that matter at a Fort birthday.
Conversational, not declamatory
Fort rooms reward an anchor who sounds like she is talking, not announcing. Divya hosts at the level of a long Sunday lunch with confident regulars, and that is what keeps the corporate guests in their seats.
Bilingual without making it a thing
Fort guest lists usually have international visitors and older family members in the same room. Divya moves between English and Hindi without breaking flow, and pulls in Gujarati or Marathi when the moment calls for it.
Keeps the schedule honest
Heritage clubs and boutique Fort venues run on hard cut-off times. Divya tracks the floor tempo live, trims slack between segments, and makes sure the cake comes out before the venue starts setting up for the next morning.

Questions Fort families ask first
Straight answers, no hedging on the details.
Fort and Kala Ghoda guest lists usually have lawyers, architects, design studio founders, and senior corporate types from the Ballard Estate offices. They notice script clichés instantly. Divya pitches the room with sharper, more conversational English, less stage volume, and crowd-work pulled from the family’s actual history.
Restored heritage lofts, art galleries used as private event spaces, members-only corporate clubs near Ballard Estate, and the colonial banquet rooms that some Fort hotels still maintain. A few families also host at private offices converted for the evening.
Yes. The way to do it is to time the kids’ segments early in the evening, before the corporate guests have settled in, and shift the room into the adult format around the second hour. Divya manages that transition so neither group feels short-changed.
The old Fort venues have hard floors and 18-foot ceilings, which means cheap PAs feed back instantly. Divya does a sound check with the venue’s AV team an hour before doors, drops her vocal pitch slightly, and works the room from the floor when she needs to instead of fighting the mic.
Boutique heritage clubs and the smaller Fort venues book out at least eight weeks ahead, sometimes more around winter weekends. Two to three months gives enough room for scripting and a venue walk-through if needed.
